When I say the CEO is a captain and the CFO is the navigator, what I mean is the CEO’s job is to say where we want to take a company. They’re also gonna inspire the crew and do that kind of stuff. The CFO’s job is to support the captain by charting the course of how we get where we want to go. What does that mean?

The captain gives us an idea and says, I want to grow sales by 300% over the next four years. That’s a great plan. But how do we get there? Are we gonna grow organically? Are we going to have an acquisition that’s gonna allow our sales to double in that timeframe? That’s what the CFO has to model out so that we can then bring the plan to our board of directors, our sponsors, and our lenders, so they understand how we plan on achieving the goals we’ve set forth as a company.
