I call myself a solutions architect. Why? Because as a CFO, I’m the one who often sees problems first. I am the one creating the forecast. I’m the one reviewing the financials, and in doing so, I’m gonna see issues often before anyone else will.

So what do I do when I see those issues? I don’t just sit there and run to the CEO or run to my colleague and say, “Hey, we have a problem.”

I go to them and I say, “Hey, I have a problem, and here’s a solution I think might work.” That solution doesn’t always work, but it’s often the foundation for what ends up being the right answer. Then we can move forward and correct.
