When given the option between a small efficient team or a large bloated team, I’ll take the small efficient team all day long. It brings me back to a time when I was the CFO of a company. We had a team of 12. One of my assistant controllers was a really nice guy and spent at least five hours a day walking around, talking to people, chatting them up, and everyone loved him.

They didn’t realize that he was stealing an hour from them every day. He was pushing his work off onto them. I had to let that guy go. When he was let go, I was able to take his salary redistributed amongst the team. They were all super excited to receive mid-year bonuses and they started working way more efficiently and recognize they were doing the same work for more money and getting it done faster.
