So many times the CFO is viewed as the “no” guy. I view myself as the “yes if” guy. The difference is, is I hear what someone is looking to do and rather than initially coming up with reasons to say “no,” I start coming up with a model to say “yes if we’re able to achieve this.” So we model it out. Are we getting the ROI we’re looking for?
If the answer is yes, let’s do it. If the answer is no, let’s come up with an alternative to potentially get the ROI we’re looking for. That’s why I view myself not as a risk manager, but as a value architect.
